Draft public pages with Site Studio

Apply the current database migrations, enable Site Studio in Plugins, and open Site Studio to create page drafts for the public website. The plugin starts disabled. A draft is private working copy: it never appears on the public site until a future publish step, which is still being built.

Create a draft

1. Enter the service name, the audience, and the outcome the page should sell, for example “Bookkeeping automation”, “Home service owners”, “The office runs while the crew builds”. Leave the URL slug blank to derive it from the service name, or set it explicitly when a draft already uses that slug. Use Additional direction for constraints the draft should reflect, such as tone or sections to emphasize.
2. Choose Built-in service template for an instant structured draft, or AI generated to have the configured model write one (needs OpenRouter connected under Setup).
3. Optionally attach approved catalog photography. Only catalog images can be attached; external URLs are refused.
4. Select Create draft and confirm the preview opens with your heading, sections, calls to action, and images.

AI drafts can be refused before they save: invented links, prices, percentages, client names, or non-catalog images come back with the exact problem named. Fix the brief and try again.

Review the preview

Check the heading, body copy, calls to action, and every attached image with its alt text. Switch between Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile widths. Rename the draft from the same page when the title needs work; if someone else changed the draft underneath you, the save is refused and the latest copy reloads instead of overwriting. A draft that fails validation shows an error instead of a preview; the attached-images list names each catalog reference so you can spot an unresolved one.

Drafts are private tenant records stored in the database, with stable IDs, incrementing versions and immutable revision history. Renaming a slug does not create a new draft identity. Drafts keep a checksum and source record (template or AI) with the brief that produced them. Publishing, scheduling, and rollback arrive in a later release; treat every draft as unapproved until a person has reviewed it. Discard a draft from its preview page when it is no longer needed; discarding asks once for confirmation and never touches published output.

Costs, limits and recovery

Template creation, preview, rename and discard make no model request. AI generation uses your configured OpenRouter job and shared budget controls; its provider charges apply even if the resulting draft needs revision. Pattern checks reject common invented claims, but they cannot verify every statement. Review all business facts yourself before using the copy.

The list shows the 200 most recently updated active drafts. A failed load shows an error and Retry instead of a successful empty list. A stale edit or discard is refused: reload, inspect the changed content, and decide again. Disabling the plugin closes its routes and refuses writes while retaining stored drafts and history. The default fictional demos leave Site Studio disabled; their business workflows do not establish a connected Site Studio proof.

The section regeneration service is available through the authenticated API with a required checksum and the same model budget. It currently has no preview-screen control. General-purpose AI/MCP editing tools, publishing, scheduling and rollback remain separate work; no draft operation publishes a page.

Example: draft a bookkeeping service page

Maya is preparing a page for the fictional Northline business.

1. Enter “Bookkeeping automation” as the service, “Home service owners” as the audience, and “Keep the office work moving while the crew is on site” as the outcome.
2. Choose Built-in service template, leave the slug blank, and select Create draft. This path makes no model request.
3. Review the heading and calls to action at Desktop, Tablet and Mobile widths. Check that the page makes no claim about a price, customer or result that your business has not approved.
4. Rename the draft if needed, then return to the list and reopen it to confirm the saved version.

For AI-written copy, use AI generated after your administrator has configured OpenRouter. For example, add “Use plain language; do not invent prices or customer results” to Additional direction. Review the result even if validation accepts it. If validation refuses a claim or link, revise the brief and try again; provider usage can still incur a charge.

This exercise produces a private draft. There is no Publish control in this release, and creating a draft does not change the public website.

If AI generation fails before a preview opens, read the displayed reason. Ask your administrator to verify the configured model and current application release for a provider or configuration error. You can select Built-in service template to continue without a model call. If the error names the generated content, such as an unsupported image or invented claim, revise the brief before another AI attempt. A failed attempt may still incur provider usage; do not repeatedly submit an unchanged brief without checking the cause.
